Blake Brewer is a delightful young man, who is full of promise, and has taken excellent advantage of the training opportunities offered by the CSSSA theater program. He is a resident of Los Angeles County, and will be entering his junior year of high school this year. He has distinguished himself in every area of study, and been available for others in his studio in a compassionate and responsible manner. His efforts as an actor, a singer, a physical comedy practitioner, and as a participant in every class offered in the theater program, have been exemplary and laudable. We are happy to recognize his work ethic and willingness to be present. He has a long list of colleges which he would like to attend, and we take pleasure in encouraging him in his future training as a performing artist.

The first Mel Swope Performing Arts Scholarship was awarded in August 2014 at the conclusion of the 28th CSSSA Summer Session to Music student, Amelia (Amy) Prochaska. An exemplary vocal student, Amy quickly captured the attention of the CSSSA Music Department faculty.  The following is how the Music Department faculty described Amy:
“From the first day, Amy’s talent blew CSSSA faculty away.  She sings every style of music beautifully, and even writes and arranges her own music.  Further, she led several musical group projects this summer.  She is caring, funny, smart and an incredibly talented actress and singer. We are extremely proud to present the first Mel Swope award to Amy.”

Mel Swope is a Founding Director Emeritus of the CSSSA Foundation Board having served for thirty years supporting the students at CSSSA.  Mr. Swope helped establish the board when he was Producer-Director of the television series FAME in 1983.

We are proud to honor Mel Swope’s legacy and lasting contribution to CSSSA through the Mel Swope Performing Arts Scholarship.

The scholarship will be given on an annual basis at the conclusion of the CSSSA Program.
